1500+ Calories...........And still losing weight!

So many people are eating 1200 calories or less and are losing weight (which is fine if it works for that individual). However, I would love to read about the folks here on MFP who are eating 1500 calories or more and are consistently losing weight. I started in December and have been averaging about 1lb/week. I don't feel hungry and I finally feel that I can really lose the weight now that I learned that I don't have to starve myself to lose weight and that it is truly okay to eat  Who would've "thunk" it

Please share....I look forward to reading your stories

If I ate 1500 calories I would be dropping at least a pound per week. :P If I ate 2000 calories a day, I would probably be dropping around .5 lbs per week.

I eat more than 1500 calories a day and lose. Heck, 1500 calories a day would be to low for me if I wasn't exercising... I eat up to and sometimes a little over 3000 and am doing pretty good. I onl eat that much when I have worked that much though.

    Bump!!
  • 1500 isn't that high considering your goal is to lose 50 pounds. I would eat about that much to lose and I'm considerably smaller--yes, everyone is different but I think you'd be shocked to know that many people are eating quite a bit more than 1500 and still losing! Congrats though on not buying into the 1200 calorie craze.

I wish I could figure out how to make this work for me. When I first started MFP I was eating about 1400 per day and losing weight steadily. I hit a plateau and was having a hard time getting a decent dinner in with remaining calories on days I didn't run so I increased my allowance to 1650. Since then, I've gained a few, lost them again, gained them again, and the cycle goes on. I am active constantly walking, climbing stairs, demonstrating exercises, and performing light lifting at work all day. The math says I should still have a decent deficit even without workouts but I think I did much better at the lower calorie goal. I am too scared to increase my calories any more because of how it affected me the last time.

    I lost 40 LBs last year eating around 1800 cals. I averaged 10 LBs a month. I lost my rhythm during the holidays and am now hoping to get back on track :}

Me! However, I only weigh myself once a month. My diary is open to friends if you want to get some ideas. I stalled out when my last trainer had me eating too little. I was constantly hangry, too.

what do you base your calorie amount on? Is it jsuta randowm number or have you researched what works?

I found when I tried to stick to 1200 a day I would give up and binge as it was not enough food. I changed mine to 1500 and I am losing 1/2 to 1kg a week and dont binge nearly as much as I dont feel starved. The extra 300 gives me the energy to exercise in the afternoon after I finish work.

I have based mine on research, working with a professional and on my bodymedia arm band. MFP is a decent starting point but it's a bit too 'cookie cutter' for my taste.

I want to slowly ease up to 1600-1700 but I just had major surgery and not moving very well so I decided to stay at 1500 until I'm able to move around better. I can't exercise for another 7 weeks :ohwell: When I get the okay to exercise I plan to eat those calories as well....I can't wait

Edited: BTW my BMR is 1500 and TDEE is 1800...currently.
  • ahh i see. that makes total sense then!

Does that include your exercise calories?

Last time I did MFP I did the 1200 calories. Way too hard.
This time around I am going for 1500 calories a day. Today is only day 4, but feel like I'm not missing out on anything.
I may have to adjust that at some point in time, but now this is what I'll work with.
I figure before MFP and changing my lifestyle - I could easily put 1500 calories away at lunch time hitting fast food!
Then another 1000 or so at dinner.

I have been eating 1600 calories a day and losing around a pound a week.

It's a long term investment so there is no reason to lose any quicker than that.

I eat around 2100 calories per day and lose between 1-2 pounds per week. I have a Body Media Fit, which shows my TDEE at anywhere between 2600-3000 give or take depending on my activity for the day.

I was eating 1700 calories a day and losing fast. Switched to a "sedentary" job and MFP switched me to 1410....now I am hardly losing. SOOOO I'm going back to 1700. You have to know what works for your body and 1700 worked well for me. So YaY 1500+

Same here - I have a fitbit that adds a lot of the calories I am burning back into what I can eat. My base calorie goal is 1340 a day, but I average between 1450 and 2000 and have lost a pound a week average since August (I started at 184 and am currently 157 and am 5'7" tall). I lose slower if I don't eat most of my calories back.

I aim for 1200 net but try to do some exercise (even if I am just getting of the tube a stop or 2 early and walking for 20 minutes) every day.

So I generally eat more than 1200 bit if I have a day where I don’t do any exercise then I try to stick to 1200. I have only been doing this for a week and a half though so ask me in a month how I’m doing!

Just getting on track recently... but even a week in (eating 1800-2000 cals day) I feel my clothes are looser and I feel good! Now I'm 300 lbs, but if I only ate 1200 I would be put away! I would go bonkers ;-)
