What does the asterisk nest to certain foods mean in the food database?

It means that information was provided by another MFP member and that you can validate it's accuracy when you look at the nutritional information and saying yes, no or I don't know that it's true or not. If you say no then you can update it to the correct values.0

Ah, I knew about the asterik, but I didn't know about the correcting. I usually confirm the details but I ran into something one day that did not have the potassium amount entered. I just bypassed it. If I see the information is correct I do hit the confirm button.0

I added a food today - Breyers all natural vanilla chocolate strawberry ice ceam, and I don't see an asterisk next to it? Shouldn't it have one?0

No, I believe the astericks only show up next to things other people have put in. I think they figure you already know that you are the one you entered it!0
