Hi!
I was just recently diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and wondering if anyone out there has any tips on losing weight. I've had success so far but seem to have plateaued a bit! Not losing motivation but thought I would ask. Also, will this weight loss help enough for infertility. I found out today my insurance plan doesnt cover infertility and need a success story!!

I have it. My doctor recommended a low carb diet and I have had good luck(also counting calories). I am off all meds for it and my cycles are totally normal now. I am also down 105lbs from my original start weight of 305lbs.0

Thank you for such the great responses! I'm focusing on low carb and healthy carb foods. I've been walking for a hour and tracking everything that touches my lips! I really want a family and get healthly! This diagnosis has all been a bit stressful for me to swallow!0

PCOS kinda sucks, but it's manageable, and it's not a death sentence for your eggs. Don't starve yourself, because you don't want to mess with your metabolism any more than the syndrome already does, but focus on healthy, whole-foods eating with special attention to limiting sugar. Anything to fight insulin resistance (including regular exercise) will help; but you don't need to be a hero. A plateau is not a failure! Sounds like you're doing awesome work, keep it up! If it's safe for your joints, you could try doing little intervals during your walks to try to break the plateau (walk for a minute or two, jog or run for 30 seconds - there's lots of info on how to work intervals out there). If that doesn't work for your joints or your preference, you could throw in a little strength work with some squats or other at-home exercises every now and again. Or you could just try to walk a little bit farther in the same amount of time. Or you could just keep doing what you're doing and maintain while you let the good habits settle in!0

I have PCOS too and have about 50 pounds to lose, and hoping to stick with MFP!! Because of infertility my husband and I are pusuing adoption, but still hoping some day to have biological children as well.
I saw someone else's post about taking Cinnamon. I am going to try that--although I read that recent studies indicate only 1 g of cinnamon a day is necessary. I tried metformin for many years and did not feel that it helped me. I also did not like the side effects. I am also taking some things that my Naturopath recommended including Ovablend by Vitanica that really blocks the testosterone and helps with the acne.
Keep sharing ladies!! It's nice to connect with others who understand the struggles of PCOS; although everyone is different. It can be a lonely road when you are the only one you know with PCOS.0 -
Hello I have PCOS too. My GP told me to focus on eating healthy and low GI/low carb and to get active. A few months later I was pregnant with DS who is now nearly 4. Good luck to you!0

I have lost 13 lbs (69 more to go), but I have already noticed a difference just from eating lower on the glycemic index, combining carbs with high protein food to reduce the insulin response and exercising a lot. My periods were really, really irregular and the last couple of months they were exactly 30 days apart. PCOS makes it harder to lose weight, etc but its not impossible. I have heard that if you can get your weight under control that getting pregnant gets a lot easier.0

Hey its not end of the Road its just a road to travel for ladies like us with PCOS & anyway ever 1 woman out of 25 has this & havin PCOS doesnt mean u cannot hav children so just be positive & u got a bunch of gr8 advices here so stick to them & exercise is the answer to it cz u lose weight plus if ur insulin thing is goin up like I ws prescribed Glucophage & i took it for a whole year then I promised to myself that if no drugs then I must must change my habits so here i am with no medicine but yes with exercise & diet & am not doing that bad
