Upperbody strength without handhelds

Problem: I have rheumatoid arthritis, and I'm currently in the middle of some issues with my wrists. Hands go numb, pain shoots down into my hands- same ol' same ol, but it's part of my new normal. Of course, this flare started the day AFTER I bought a set of kettlebells to use at home.
What can I do to increase my upperbody strength without doing anything where I have to hold something? I just used my own body weight as resistance in the cardio class I took tonight when we did arm weights. I tend to worry that everyone is judging me (old habits die hard) and worry that ppl think I'm being a slackass about not using weights when I really just don't want to deal with the pain and numbness.
