Eating all day

I have just changed my eating, and I am on average eating about 300 calories 6 times a day. Is this normal? I feel like I am eating all the time. I also was trying not to eat after 7 pm, but have been getting so hungry, I have been eating a snack at like 10. Is this good or bad? Any advice?

Eat as many times a day as YOU feel like. It makes no difference to your metabolism so yes 10pm is fine. Eat 3 meals or 4 a day if that suits you better.

"Grazing" or eating a lttle throughout the day, is actually a very healthy way to eat. It seems to be working for you as you have lost 4 pounds and you just started. If you are making healthy choices that include protein, fruits and vegetables, and complex carbs and are limiting your fat and empty carbs, then you can and should eat as frequently as you feel like. It's the total intake that is important.
  • I personally think that you have to find a pattern that is right for you. If you are feeling like you are eating too often, you may want to increase the amount of protein at each meal. I have been over on my protein totals daily & am full. A trainer told me to eat at least 1/2 the amount of your weight in protein per day. I find when I stick with that plan it helps. It may take some getting used to by not eating after 7pm. I have heard that as long as it is a few hrs before bed you are ok. Recently I saw someone have success 3 days a week doing all of their eating for the day in a 8hr window. They lost weight & felt better. Hang in there & good luck :)

Its a myth that eating before bed is bad. On a daily basis it doesn't matter when you eat for the sake of calories. For most people keeping the feeling of full makes dieting easier. I eat at least 6 meals a day. Only lunch and dinner are big meals the rest are small either 300 or 150 calories.

As long as you are making healthy choices with the food you are eating you are doing exactly right. It's not true that eating before bedtime is bad for you, especially if you are hungry. As long as it's a healthy snack and not sugar and stuff. If you are hungry you should eat.
  • I did just read a study that said eating 3 larger meals or 6 smaller meals seems to make no difference in the subjects hunger or weight loss results. Whatever you feel better doing. I really like to eat and I have time enough to prepare. I like 6 meals, cause I love food and it feels like I get to eat more. hee

Define "normal". I eat once a day, 2200+ calories.

Meal timing is totally irrelevant, overall intake is important - you're fine.

I usually do 600 calories three times a day. It doesn't matter *when* you eat your food, or how often.

Time of day doesn't matter in the slightest. You can eat your calories spread out however you like. I find I tend to have a small, late breakfast, and then eat every several hours. I eat more at lunch and dinner, but snacks are still a substantial part of my intake for the day.

If it works for you, it's your normal. you could eat one 1800 calorie meal (although um, that might hurt) or twelve 150 calorie snacks throughout the day, outcome is the same.

Really? I'm always telling my boyfriend off for always skipping breakfast, sometimes lunch, then coming home and eating the equivalent of two large meals. He has suffered from irritable bowel syndrome for years and in the past year painful piles and he had to have an op on them and they're back again. He doesn't see the connection with his eating patterns at all. Grrr. Just sayin ;-)

I think Howl was just referring to a calorie deficit for weight loss. Eating a huge meal in one sitting may be unhealthy in other ways.

    Ew, nice.

To put it in better context - meal timing has no relevance to body composition. May affect bowel movements, though. :P

Sorry if that was TMI! Just some advice about eating once a day. My boyfriend's a right pain in the bum (ha ha) when he's moaning about his farmer jiles!
