Should I care

if the person nearby passively complains about the loudness of my treadmill (it is much louder than the other two)

He was not wearing headphones and watching tv while running

I'm thinking I DID not come to the gym to hear someone whine about the sound of GYM machines.

Basically he wanted me to move to a different treadmill. Passive aggressive conversation makes me want to get aggressive.

I ran faster just to annoy him
  • What a whiny cry baby! Seriously?? lol Maybe he needs to get some ear buds and listen to some music.

You should have told him his whining is distracting.

Nope, screw that guy. He should keep his mind on his own treadmill. Tell him to take it up with maintenance if he has a problem.

If the volume of your headphones was as loud as I have mine.... you wouldn't hear the complaining. :)

I'm gonna be the the less popular viewpoint here and say that you might want to tell the gym staff if the treadmill is significantly louder than the others--maybe something needs to be fixed. There's an elliptical at my apartment complex' fitness center that squeaks horribly and can be heard even when wearing headphones or with the TV on--it was super annoying to ME, and I was using the machine LOL.

That being said, he could have been more polite, if it really was the sound that was a problem.

the only reason you should MAYBE care would be if it's something that you're doing that's making the treadmill be "too loud."
for example, last march or april i was at the gym and there was a girl on the treadmill in front of me while i was cycling who kept stepping on the stationary plastic part right in front of the belt. the belt pulled her back, but her soles resisted the motion, creating a lovely SQUEEE SQUEEEE SQUEEEE SQUEEEEE SQUEEE that was so loud that i could hear it with my music up the whole way. after 25 minutes of fighting the urge to punch her in the back of the head, i just left.

It's the machine. It's loud when anyone is on it. I'll talk to mgmt

Just was wondering if I was witchy for not caring...I kinda have a worry about yourself mentality when I'm in the gym. You do your thing I will do mine

I'd start breathing louder and grunting. Maybe hum too.

Seriously..you are at a gym and you are going to complain about the noise of the machines???

Not only that..you are going to complain to the person on it. Seriously. You aren't in a damn library. If anything, go to management and leave the person working out alone.

    Sheesh.

I mean honestly... what does anyone think a gym that is full of machines is going to sound like. That's like walking into the locker room and complaining about naked people walking around.

How is it your fault? He should tell management, not interrupt your workout. I would've done exactly what you did.
