How NPR can help you

Hello everyone!

The only radio that I listen to religiously is NPR (for those of us who never heard of that, it stands for National Public Radio, very popular in the US).

And I should say that it plays a big role in my weight management program. In a way, NPR started my journey and it definitely helped me go on.
When I started my "50 mins brisk pace walk home from work", NPR was a huge motivator.
When I started running, NPR was there for me.
Whenever it was too noisy/boring/slow in the gym, NPR would push me.

It comes down to 2 things to me:

1) INFORMATION
There are a lot of programs that talk about health and weight related issues in particular. They invite doctors and specialists to debate and discuss recent studies and typical mistakes.

2) ENTERTAINMENT
Music on "All Songs Considered" is amazing for running and machine gym.
"Car Talk" is perfect for rainy gloomy days (Tom and Ray always make my day no matter what).
"Hearing Voices" - interesting stories
"NPR Playback" - feeling nostalgic? Choose your favorite year and enjoy.
"Snap Judgement" - if you haven't checked it out yet, it's the best show ever and it can keep you running/walking/exercising even when you're done - you won't even notice.

    I listen to a lot of NPR podcasts, usually while walking or exercising at the gym.

    Most relevant to this thread is "Your Health"--these are usually pretty short, 3-6 minutes.

    I also like Planet Money and Freakonomics, and of course This American Life, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Fresh Air, etc.

    I split my time between NPR & Sports Radio......It's the perfect combination of meathead & dork.

    Yes, the health and fitness stuff is much more in-depth and helpful than the cacophany of BS "reported" by the more main stream new sources.

    I can finish a whole workout while listening to Car Talk and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me podcast and never once stop and think, "Geez, when do I get to quit?"

    NPR really is my connection to the world.

    And one of the callers mentioned MFP!!!

    And with Snap Judgement there were times when I would stand outside or walk in the rain or bump into people or fall off the stairs just because i could not stop listening ;)
