It sounds reasonable in general, and certainly not too much, but it's impossible to know without knowing more details about you. Different people require different amounts. If you are gaining weight over time (ignoring fluctuations) then it's probably too much for you.

Since you didn't tell us anything about your height/weight/age, it's a little hard to say :)

But generally speaking, if you're around average height for a woman, 1550 is not too much. If you're smaller, it may be borderline too much, and if you're taller, it may be not enough. At 5'6" I ate at 1550 (more when I exercised) for awhile, and I lost weight. I've since upped it to 1700 and am pretty much maintaining my current weight. However, I think at 1700, I'm still losing inches around my waistline (my strength training is burning fat), which I think is far more valuable than pounds

    What are your BMI/TDEE?
Or, how old are you, how tall are you, what's your weight, what's your lifestyle?
Hard to say without that info.

Depending on your activeness - you would be surprised how much you can eat and not get 'fat'

Yes I have been adding more calories as my weight decreases, this way I am closer to my TDEE to keep my deficit a manageable amount.

I went from 1500-1600 per day to 1800. I have lost my last few pounds, but more importantly I have lost inches and gotten faster and stronger in the gym. I bought a BodyMedia armband in November and found that through daily activity and exercise I burn between 2200-3000 calories per day. This was very much in line with what most of the online calculators suggested for my TDEE. I am pretty much trying to maintain now though.

    I am 5'6", 42 years old and 129 pounds.

Worst case is up your calories, give it a month and see what happens. You can always drop back down. You have to find what works for you and your body. Good luck. You can see my profile pictures if you want to see my progress.
