Numbers aren't adding up?

I just did the BMR calculator on here and it said my BMR is 1,715. I subtracted the number of calories I eat which is 1,400. That leaves me with a 315 daily deficit. 315 times 7 days a week equals a 2,250 weekly deficit. I have MFP set to lose 1.5 lbs a week, so shouldn't I have more than a 2,250 weekly calorie deficit? I thought 1 lbs equals 3,500 calories.I barely exercise due to a recent back injury, if I do its only like 80 calories a day from walking, and I eat those calories back. I'm just confused.

You don't subtract from your BMR - you subtract from your TDEE.

BMR is your minimum needed - TDEE the number needed for maintenance at your current weight.

By the way, it is not recommended to fall below 1200 calories a week and you are obviously currently eating 1400. This means that you are correct in your understanding that this would give a deficit of 315 and even at a 1200 calories plan it would only go up to 515. You are also correct in believing that it takes 3500 calories a week to burn 1lb so you will need to squeeze some exercise in there somewhere, if you can, or reduce your loss goal a little.

I am only 4' 11" and with a BMR of just 1490 it's really hard work to create that deficit, I tried reducing the calories and it really didn't work, I think my body went into starvation mode and I just got hungry but no thinner!!! Exercise makes a huge difference so do some if you can, but if not, don't be disheartened if your loss is slow. It does come off eventually.

I only just joined MFP but I've lost 24lbs in the last year!!

    Good luck!!!
