Hidden sugar

I decided to add sugar to my nutrients tracked, and I'm finding hidden sugar in almost every thing I eat. Even my pretzels that I had last night had sugar.

Any tips for eliminating the hidden sugars in the foods I eat?

I know I need to make some better choices in eating more fresh food, but with a limited income (single mom, working full time, only one income), it's hard to afford fresh all the time. I try to not buy processed foods, but sometimes have no choice.

Don't eat anything with more than two ingredients. It's not expensive to eat natural unprocessed foods you just have to think about what you buy - fresh root vegetables, frozen veggies, dried fruit, canned beans and lentils, brown rice, oats, canned oily fish, eggs and organ meats like liver can be very inexpensive. It's worth starting a little notebook or using your smartphone to record prices per 100g or per serving, there is a huge variation in what different meats, seafood or fruits and veggies cost. I did that for the stuff I eat here in the UK and I have fruit from 4p up to about 50p a serving, veggies from 5p up to 60p a serving which is an absolutely massive range. There are more expensive ones, I didn't track all produce by any means.

More expensive are fresh fruits and veggies that are not in season and especially the softer ones that easily get attacked by insects or fungus, there is a lot of waste in farming, transport and retail of these so the costs are passed on to the consumer.
