taking off too many calories?

I have just downloaded a pedometer app on my ipod and synched it to myfitnesspal. Now it inputs how many steps I've taken in a day and takes off the equivalent amount of calories. However it isn't anything more than I usually do in a day. I'm worried it's not showing a true reflection of my exercise in a day and is taking off to many calories. What do people think?
