Need help from those runners!!!

Hello all!!

I am in a predicament. See, in 2011, I ran a half marathon. No injuries, no problems- was awesome.
Last year, just sorta ran for fun, never over 2-3 miles.

Well, in November, around Thanksgiving, I started experiencing excruciating pain in my left foot after about a mile and a half.
This happened 4 times in a row. I changed my shoes three times (I have a great running store near me that's very good about returns no matter what).. finally went to an injury clinic.

Plantar Fasciitis.

Blah.
So I took off time. 5 weeks to be exact. Doing my stretches, icing my foot, etc. I didn't want to experience that pain again.

Now- today actually- I put on my new pair of brooks (got fitted for them) and hit the pavement.

Foot. Still. Hurts.

I did walk/run, and only went a little over a mile.. but it only hurt WHILE I was running.

Stopping running isn't an option.

Should I keep going?

Does anyone have any opinions on how to help?
I used to run in vibram five fingers... I feel like that might help strengthen my foot? Or would it make it worse...?
Thoughts?

Please and thank you all!!!!

  • If stopping running isn't and option then you won't heal up.

you are most prone to this type of injury when just getting back to running.

Are you still stretching regularly? That was the key for me.

regarding the vibrams strengthening should only be done when you are not "flared up" you first have to get the inflammation / irritation down or you will just make it worse

Running through palantir faciitus is not a good thing. It has to be healed fully. Some people have been out of running for a very long time waiting for that injury to heal. Talk to a sports physio who would know a lot more than we do on this site, but it has to heal properly or you'll always have problems with it.

You may have to stop running for a while to let the injury completely heal. Definitely check in with the injury clinic/doctor/orthopedic people, they would be the experts!

Good advice. Definitely check with a doctor.

I've had plantar fascitis (caught it at the very beginning) and I had to take 3 months off of running. Running with this injury can make it much worse (to the point where you will need surgery).

Running injuries are no joke. If you want to keep exercising, look at swimming (jogging in the pool can mimic the intensity of running), rowing, weights, etc. Your doctor can suggest alternatives.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery!
