Never give up. Starting is thefirst biggest step. I have a lot of weight to lose also. Just stay motivated and remember this is reversible. So hang it there and best of luck rediscovering yourself!!!
Also, I have notice a huge difference in my thinking since starting MFP. It seems to get easier and easier making the right choices. and I have actually found yummy desserts that are healthy. Like IceBox cake made with sugarfree - fat free pudding, low fat graham crackers and low fat or fat free coolwhip. YUMMY!!!0 -
You can do it! Portion sizes are everything! I love bacon and would typically eat 5-6 pieces whenever I ate it. Now, I'll only cook 2 slices at a time - I can give up 80 calories for fried bacon once a week!
Another one of my big problems was drinking. I quit drinking soda and stick only to water now. If you feel like going out for a drink, I'd suggest buying crystal light ahead of time and bringing it to the bar or restaurant. Order a vodka and water and add the crystal light yourself. You'll save about 60 calories from not drinking soda and about 50 calories from not drinking cranberry juice. One kroger brand strawberry lemonade packet is only 5 calories and I'll usually make one packet last for two drinks. It's delicious, too!
Good luck on your journey! YOU CAN DO IT!0 -
Another UKer here, who had just over 100lbs to lose when starting in mid July - mini-goals are my way forward too - it's got me over halfway there in almost 6 months, so works for me.
You can do it - take baby steps otherwise the amount is just too daunting.0 -
Hello Try to just forget the amount. And log everyday stay hydrated with water and move. You can do this if your ready. I honestly believe if your not ready mentally. It won't happen. Please feel free to add me as a friend. You can do this. Positive thoughts sent your way. Peace and smiles Julie0

I started off last year and lost 40 lbs.. 20 on WW and then i hit a platue and started here. MFP is a lot easier with 3 kids and not being able to plan every meal. Lost another 20. So I now have another 70 more to go. I messed up a lot of times and weeks last year. I didn't punish myself for it just picked up the pcs and got right back on it. Hoping to get the same results another 40 lbs this year. Then i will go from there till i am happy. Just cause it says i need to loose more for my target doesn't mean I will not be happy before then.
Key if i may.. Dont look at the whole number. Take it by tens.. Say ok i want to get out of the 220's. And then the 210's ... Reward yourself with something little and it shouldn't always be food. GO get your nails done.. or buy that shirt you really wanted... And when i am on track and doing good i make sure one meal a month is something i really want no matter what it be just dont go over board. It helps me...0 -
Been there, almost done doing that... friend request on the way0

I feel like I have a very long way to go also, I have put a goal of about 90lb to lose but in reality I would like to lose more but couldn't bring myself to put a higher target.
I feel that the key is to, as others have said to appreciate the little achievements. Every pound that leaves will bring me closer to my goal.
My biggest worry is exam time, I need the energy to learn but I need to lose the weight0 -

Losing 100 lbs does seem overwhelming but, if you try to break it into smaller goals it makes a huge difference. Then you can keep looking at how far you have come, not how far you have to go. Tell yourself, i am going to lose 10 lbs....10 times. Sounds much easier doesent it? Love yourself in the process...because that is what it is.....for the rest of your life.
I have lost 70 lbs doing it this way....only thinking about the next ten to come off. Hope this little bit of advice will help0 -
I started with about 130 lbs to lose. I am down 65. Has it taken me awhile? Yes! Did I stall out, fall of the wagon, lose my way? Yes! Did I pick up the pieces and start the day over again? Yes!
You will have days that you stumble - just pick it up at the next meal and continue on from there. Don't beat yourself up over it. That took me a long time to learn - I would think if I blew it at one meal then the whole day could be a free for all. Now, I just start back over with the next meal.
Break it down into small, manageable chunks. 10 lbs, 1 pant size, a % of body fat, maybe just focus on exercise at first then start adding in the food. However you do it, just do it. Do what works best for you in the schedule you can maintain. If you start off whole hog with changing everything at once, you may be bound to fall off the wagon. Some people do, some don't.
You have a ton of support in this community. Rely on them when you are having an off day or have questions.
Feel free to add me!

I have a lot tolose myself, about 100 pounds more and I have lost about 23 so far. How I've done it so far is setting smaller goal changing BMI class is one I just did went from obese class 3 to obese class 2 (bmi in the 30s), also.down a pant size, then 5lbs, 10lbsand so on too. Friend request sent anyone feel free to add me!0

Seems like there are a lot of us out here! You've definitely gotten some really good advice here!
I, too, am a newbie....just back to MFP. I am 43, weigh 282 and I would really like to weigh 175. I've got a looong way to go! We can totally do this together! There are so many here. If you have room, feel free to add me. In fact, any of you can add me!0 -
Take it in small goals, give yourself a 5 or 10 pound goal to reach and
and then another. Log it in a notebook if you want to, I did this before MFP
was created. I still have my notes and I smile to see the numbers go down
just a little each week. You CAN do it! I started out at 346 and I now
weigh 183, if you fall off the wagon just climb back on the next day and don't
beat yourself up over it. Best of luck to you!
