HRM vs Elliptical trainer

Just curious if anyone knows why there would be a 100 cal burn difference between my Polar F6HRM and the elliptical trainer? For 22min, the elliptical says I burned 296cal, my HRM says 204??
I also did 22 min on the stair mill and that was 180 cal on BOTH HRM and machine...so that was accurate...

Does your heart rate monitor ask you all your stats like weight and such? And does the machine? Are you sure the info put in is the same on both? Like my elliptical at the gym asks weight and age and gives me a target heart rate. Well, if thats not the same as what I put in my HRM, then I assume it would give a different number. I noticed the same thing on mine today too. I am curious to see what others say.0

They both ask weight and age....and my heart rate pick up on the machine from the polar chest monitor...that's why I'm confused? Maybe the polar doesn't account for the upper body burn you get on the elliptical? It's basing calories on heart rate only???0
