oh poor Kate! this is TERRIBLE! the only thing i can think of that would POSSIBLY explain this is if her sittings were when she was first so sick w/ her morning sickness and they weren't telling anyone she was pregnant. she looks ill in the painting. and she can't SAY anything. poor Kate!!!
I was wondering if maye he did the portrait while she was lying in the hospital bed. I'm sure she looked pretty crappy then. Who wouldn't?

I bet there's some poor, out-of-work painter out there somewhere who could have done a much better job, too.

Even famous people get bad driver's license pictures. Seems fair. Have you seen celebrity mug shots? Always awful. BTW It probably looks like *kitten* to us because all the pictures in the magazines are photoshopped.
This is an oficial portrait that probably cost quite a lot of money and will be around forever. It's not a mug shot or driver's license.

I was think official portrait meant like, ID photo. But still, its a painting. I don't pity her in the slightest. If she isn't happy with it, I'm sure they can afford a new one. There will be millions of photos in the archives for us to remember how pretty she really was.

I don't feel sorry for her. I'm just kind of surprised the British Royal Family would pay for and release something like that. If I didn't know it was her, I wouldn't have thought it was her.

It looks to me like that painter took a pic of himself, minus the stache and beard, added some dark eyebrows and hair and...voila! Kate Middleton!

In my opinion, that's just an awful depiction of her.

Maybe someone in the Royal Family is jealous. Passive aggressive in laws!

    that is just fugly...

my coworker just suggested that he color her eyes red to really enhance the stoned and evil aspect of the image.

^^This. I bet the Queen decided she didn't like her and hired that guy. In the old days it would have off with her head but I guess now its just really bad paintings . . .

It's hard to take a photo of a painting and do it justice.

Kate is a beautiful young woman with an enviable sense of style (hers is the wardrobe I'd kill for!)

I think the painting does something to capture her gentle smile, but without seeing the actual painting it's hard to give a meaningful opinion.

    I hope so.

Just to be clear, I'm not commenting on what she ACTUALLY looks like. I don't think the painting (at least the photo of it) looks much like her at all.

I don't normally follow things like this, but a news station I follow posted it on Facebook and I was kind of horrified. I wonder who approved this as the "official" portrait and if that person was blind.

It looks like someone took a photo of this beautiful woman and ran it through one of those programs that ages the photo:

Hmm... Interesting how one of the first photos I find of Kate Middleton on a Google search has the same "premature" wrinkles and droopy eyes as the official portrait. This portrait is (apparently) the real Kate, not the ridiculously done up, photoshopped royal Kate.

Have you ever had a portrairt done and then have every one criticise it? Would you consider it tacky?

Must suck to be a celebrity.

She is over 30. I'm pretty sure I had started getting wrinkles by then.

She doesn't look like a middle-aged woman in that photo, though. Not even close.

Road -- If it looked that terrible, I would expect people to say something. It's not HER, it's a bad portrait. The artist is the one who should be embarrassed.

She has the exact same wrinkles in he photo that were drawn in the portrait, I quite honestly don't see a single difference, other than her chin looks a little wider and flatter in the portrait, but that might just be the difference between an offset angle in the photo and a straight on look in the portrait. The wrinkles are all there in reality, though. I think the only differences in the pictures stem from the fact that the portrait is a painting, not a photograph.

Not attacking you. It's the media I find disparaging.

I haven't seen what the media is saying. I only saw the post on FB and they just asked what people thought. I didn't read all the replies. I can imagine there is some tearing apart going on.
