The Myth of Moderation

Here is an insightful article about the commonly espoused belief that everything can be consumed in moderation. The problem is we have to understand what is ideal before we can determine what a moderate amount is. For me, I choose to completely eliminate many products permanently from my diet, but if you are choosing the path of moderation, this article may help you keep things in perspective.

Well, darn. I am editing this post to get the link to fit. I had to put it on two lines so you will have to paste both halves together to reach it.

Looking at this that way is enlightning. For me some foods are not eaten in moderation but in as little as possible. Others aren't eaten in moderation but as much as possible. Others are somewhere in between. However sometimes to eat as little as possible it can help to take things off the list. Others are in moderation whatever that means. Thanks for sharing.

I am a big proponent of everything in moderation, however in order to get to where I am, I had to redefine what "moderation" is. The great point made in that blog is most people have lost sight of what moderation is (as I did too). I am now maintaining and am semi-regularly chided by coworkers as "eating like a bird" or some such nonsense. In reality, I am eating a moderate portion of whatever, but the general public no longer knows what a true serving looks like (particularly when it comes to pasta). I am eating what were once considered "average" sized portions and most others are used to super sized barrels of soda and heaping plates of food like they serve at restaurants.

Thanks for the link, it was a good read.
