Has anyone tried the 5:2 diet? I am considering it after watching a recent TV programme........Would be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried it - good or bad

First suspicion should be: "heard about it on a tv program". I think it is based on an intermittent fasting theory, correct? Here is what you should ask yourself:
    1. Can you keep that up for a lifetime? if not, whatever losses you get from it, will not be sustainable because you haven't taught yourself how to eat/exercise correctly.
    2. Can you eat that little for those days and NOT be tempted to binge, if not, then it won't be successful.

Do what you want, but the MOST effective form of weight loss is eating at a reasonable calorie deficit, working out, and being patient.

Well, I'm curious, too. Is it a ratio or a Bible verse ; )

Basically, and I do mean basically as I'm just learning about it myself you eat normally for 5 days and "fast" for 2 days. On fast days women are allowed 500 calories per day........programme was very interesting and seem to be loads of health benefits as well as weight loss. I googled some stuff and just downloaded a Kindle book - sounds interesting!

It's just a type of interim fasting where you create the deficit on two days and eat at maintenance calories for the other 5. It works for some people.. some it doesn't. Overall, there isn't any evidences out that the suggest it's any better than a daily deficit.
