This may be a dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyway. I bought single serving-size Oikos yogurt, and it says 5.3 oz on the container. Since yogurt is liquidish, I assumed that was size by volume (8oz = 1 c.). I was going to split a cup into 2 servings because I intended to use it as a dip for my afternoon snack (apple slices and yogurt, yummmm), and I figured out there is only 1/2 cup (4 oz) of yogurt in the container. Soooo....my question is is yogurt measured by volume or weight? Because if they are selling me 5.3 fluid oz. of yogurt and I'm only receiving 4 fluid oz., I'm getting ripped off.

It's considered a food not a beverage, and is sold by weight not volume. The default meaning of "oz" on a label is weight. When referring to volume they usually put "fl oz".0

Done and done. Exactly what the first reply says. 0 0

Thanks, never thought about it being weighed by weight because it was food and not a beverage...but ice cream is sold by volume (Blue Bell is sold by the half-gallon....I love Blue Bell Ice Cream, so I'm glad they don't sell it where I live now). But again, thanks for the clarification. I no longer feel gypped.0
