Trip to Chicago

A friend is traveling for a year for work and I'm going to visit her in Chicago because it's a short flight away.
It's just for a weekend at the beginning of March.
None of us know a thing about Chicago.

We're all broke so what can we do on the cheap?

What's the weather like at the beginning of March? (I assume very chilly)

Any vegetarian/vegan restaurant suggestions?

Not knowing your tastes, I'll just tell you what my bestie and I did on our visit in September that we liked.
Art institute was really nice, great museum
Science and Industry museum was incredible, we spent almost the whole day
    Walked around Millennium Park http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/dca/supp_info/millennium_park.html

Other stuff too, but those are a good start. Just walking around the city was nice, the architecture is great.

My BFF and I went on an extended weekend trip in October 2009. We mostly walked around and saw the sights. There's the big "bean" in Millenium Park to see,, we bought passes for a double decker bus tour that was cool and allowed us to see a lot of the city, etc.

I live in downtown. Where will you be staying (in general). That way i can recommend places that are walking distance. Weather could be anywhere from 40 to 70 degrees. Some rain and wind likely. Message me if you'd like.

My fave vegan eats can be found at: Karyn's on Green, Karyn's Cooked, Chicago Diner, Native Foods, Protein Bar and many restaurants are veg friendly. You can get discounts to restaurants on Restaurant.com They often have deals like $25 for $10 or sometimes even less. Just be sure to read the limitations before making the purchase; they vary by restaurant.

Fun things to do ... you can take in matinees of great shows which are generally less expensive... you can also buy same day tickets at significant discounts.

You may also find some fun ideas here: chicagofree.info or even do a search on YELP.

I love Chicago... and anymore I think it's very challenging to guess what the weather is going to be... we are mid-January and coming off 50-60 temps and tomorrow back to 30s. ; )

Feel free to message me if you'd like to discuss more... and have a great time here!
