Need lunch ideas

Hi,
I didn't bring my lunch to work today, so I have to go out and get something. Normally, I would treat myself to a Subway turkey sandwich. But today is Friday, and I'm trying to observe Lent, so no meat. I really don't want tuna salad, since most places use way too much mayonnaise for my liking.

Any ideas on a healthy, protein-rich, meat-free lunch? My options are: Subway, WaWa (our local convenience store that does deli sandwiches), and Chinese take-out. How are the veggie patties (or whatever they call them) at Subway? I've never had them, but I'm intrigued.

Thanks!
Kathy

I'd be all for doing a veggie sandwich at Subway....just take out the meat all together and get loads and loads of veggies. Make sure you get some of the cheese to get your protein for the meal (I'm big on getting protein at every meal to stave off hunger).

I think I have to go get a sandwich for lunch now...LOL

Why don't you get some steamed shrimp (or tofu) and veggies with brown/white rice from the chinese place? They usually have these options and you can get the sauce on the side so that you can control the amount you use. I wouldnt do the convenience store...for me that would be too tempting, and subway is really no better than any other place (in my opinion).

I'm not familiar with the Lent practice of no meat, but can't you eat fish? YOu could go get some baked fish at Captain D's with green beans. Good Luck!

Agree...sounds like a great lunch! I'm always looking for food ideas on the run, and most fast food places have way too much sodium, fat, calories, mystery ingredients etc. Wouldn't have even considered Chinese, for this reason. But the above idea, especially if you keep the rice to about the size of your fist and just use a couple of teaspoons of sauce, sounds like a great alternative.

Thanks, everyone! I'm feeling the Chinese food - forgot about shrimp as a source of protein. I rarely get Chinese anymore, so it will still be a treat for me.
