what's a good choice for japanese hibachi food? it's my boyfriend's birthday so that's what we're getting but I'd like to make a semi-good choice tonight! is rice better than noodles? the place we're going to has shrimp, salmon, red meat, chicken, scallops, pretty much everything. what do you think?

Watch the overall calorie content and enjoy your meal. Some people will come in and say rice is bad, or red meat is bad, or soy sauce is bad because of the sodium. Instead, look at the overall macro and micro nutrients, how they fit in your overall diet and make sure your calories are within your limits. Then just simply enjoy. Getting fit is difficult enough without making every meal something to fret over.0

very true. I haven't had any fish in ages, so I was thinking of going down that route!0

Fish is great. Always, trying to eat more myself. Enjoy your dinner!0

I would avoid the fried rice, but other than that I don't think you can go too wrong.0

Surprisingly, the miso soup that it normally comes with is fairly low in calories. With the salad, as for the dressing on the side so that you can use less dressing than they normally would. I would suggest white rice rather than fried because they use a oil and soy sauce and all that jazz and it's just extra calories if it really doesn't matter to you taste wise. If you do like the fried rice, ask for a togo box right away and put half of it in there.
It is a celebration though, so don't be overly worried about it! These nights happen once a year so it's okay to have a good time and enjoy yourself without worrying about calories.0 -
Google the restaurant and look at the nutrient and calorie info. If they don't have one look up a larger chain like Benihana and you'll get a good idea of the best choices of your favorite dishes. Enjoy!0

thank you everyone! I actually make miso broth every day as my "tea" haha as I can't have caffeine and I just can't get past caffeine free tea I've been good all week so I feel bad eating a bad meal but I know it won't kill me. thank you!0

Anything containing oily fish, you should be eating several servings a week for health, and vegetables.0

I usually have the chicken, shrimp, or scallops. I always get the fried rice but I only eat half of it. Its the best part imo! lol0

i would also avoid the rice, usually they will offer you plain as well. Other than that, let loose and enjoy the meal but watch portion sizes. This food is so nutritious. I cook a lot of japanese meals at home for this reason, when I eat all that nutrition cravings are reduced0
