Is it ok to try cardio with a sprained wrist?

I went to the emergency room tuesday after falling down ice skating and found out I sprained my wrist bad.
Today the doctor took off the splint and recommended buying one of those velcro gloves & using it off and on for about a week. I still have quite a bit of swelling.

I forgot to ask today about getting to the gym. Do you think it would be ok to do some cardio if I don't grab onto the handles? Or would you just take another week off?

As long as you aren't using it to exercise it should be fine (No walking on your hands or hand stands)... if it starts to hurt stop.
I'm painfully clumsy and I've broken, sprained or dislocated my fair share of joints and bones. As long as they were above the waist I've been told I could continued to run. Keep it splinted and if you start to lose your balance remember to catch yourself with the other arm. :)

    good luck!!!

I broke my wrist in 4th grade and it occasionally has fits. When it gets painful, I lay off on the pushups, or anything that puts stress on it, and focus on running, aerobics, etc that doesn't require the wrists to be involved. Doesn't tend to both it at all. Just gauge how it feels and if it starts to hurt with a particular exercise then back off on the exercise or stop completely and move to something else.

For a second there I was going to ask if you were a gymnast... You should be fine so long as you don't use it at all. Raising your heart rate will pump more blood, so you may notice some throbbing and even a little more swelling in your wrist. Just get some ice on it ASAP and it'll feel better. Continue to RICE it until it returns to feeling normal and don't try to use it for anything.
