Polar ft4 vs my gaiam fitness trainer

So I just got a polar ft4 and did my 1st workout with it and compared to the same workout Wednesday (I am using body resolution)

Calories from the polar was 220

Calories from the gaiam was 390

I have used the gaiam all though 30 day shred prior and it worked fine losing weight and following it.....

Is the chest strap more accurate and I just happened to do well without it......
