Medicine=Lose of Appetite

Hey guys, I am new to MFP and so far really like it. I have really just starting using it for about 2 weeks. I have recently been put on a medicine that I will probably be on for a while and possibly the rest of my life. One of the side effects is a loss of appetite. I have completely lost my appetite. I called me doctor and have asked for suggestions but in a hurry she said “eat when you are hungry and take a multivitamin”. You can’t tell by my diary that I don’t eat many calories (haha slowly making changes and a mountain dew addict) but with the amount of exercise I have been doing, I know it’s not enough. Recently, I have been making a lot of shakes because the medicine also makes me really thirsty and I always have a drink in my hand, buttttttt still not that many calories. I am reading a lot about starvation mode and how important metabolism is and it’s making me nervous. Does anyone else have this issue? Should I not worry about it and just enjoy that I don’t want to shove cheese pizza in my face (my favorite food). Any suggestions on vitamins ? Thanx in advance for sharing your suggestions!

I will listen to any ideas that people have to share. Don’t get me wrong, I am here to lose some weight but I don’t want it to be unhealthy weight. I don’t even necessary have to lose weight, just make healthier choices and turn flab into muscle.

I am 24. Starting weight (2 weeks) ago 164. Today I weighed 161.4. Wanting to be around 135/140 with more muscle.

  • Well, recently I have been experiencing the same problem to where I am almost never hungry. However, it happened shortly after I started having mountain dews daily. When I stopped drinking it, 12 hours later, I was hungry for food again. But when I drank just another sip of the drink again, it came back. I am not sure if it has something to do with it but I think it is likely the high caffiene content. I would suggest going a week without it, while staying on your multivitamins, just to balance everything back into place! Good luck getting your appetite back!
