Will I ever be thin again?

I have been on a journey for about 3 years now. I have been (mostly) thin all my life. Menopause hit me young at 45 and its been a cruel joke since. Its not because I have not tried I assure you. I went from 148 to 180 almost overnight. My most desperate moments led me to using HCG and was able to drop 25 lbs, but so far it was the only success I had and of course that weight is back. I've learned that tears and prayers don't work very well either.
So, about a year ago I began seeking a healthier me. I've changed my diet for the most part. I know if I eat pizza, bread, pasta, etc I can gain 5 lbs overnight and spend a week trying to get it off again. I am always bloated. I can watch my stomach grow in front of me.
I joined the gym months ago and watched myself gain 10 lbs and 5 more inches to my waist.
What is wrong?????????????? WHY??????
So, I am now going to a Naturopath. She said i need to balance my hormones I got all these tests done. She said I have sensitivities to yeast and cucumber, and also lessor so with wheats and gluten. Wanted me to go vegatarian. Not my thing. I went Primal instead (with occassional cheats). That means I live on meat, veggies, and fruit. I eat a little dairy, and most carbs are gone though I do treat myself to a piece of bread now and again....
So I had planned to lose weight and then quit smoking. I realized I'm going to be fat forever (I hate to be negative my first day on here, but I've been trying to lose for 3 years now). So, I quit smoking 2 weeks ago (yay me) and am so afraid I am going to be huge. So now I am walking at work with friends, restarted the gym after stopping 6 weeks ago out of depression about my lack of results, am now taking my new Bio Hormones and a variety of vitamins.
So essentially, I am doing everything right and still gaining. Okay, I admit I have my Friday night date out each week, but usually choose good things like steak and salad as an example.
I am hoping someone recognized what I am going thru and can help me. I need support and encouragement to keep all these good things going. I'd be happy to get back to 150, even though I'd love to get to my old normal of 135.
I hope to make new friends here who may be going thru similar things at this stage of life so we can figure it out together!!

Hi you can add me as I seem to be in the same boat. I started gaining in the summer of 2011 and haven't stopped since I have tried so hard it seems I just keep gaining. I think some if it is stress, I often thought stress made you lose weight but not here. I am trying to lose at least 80 lbs. I know we can do this!!!!0

Why not try the vegetarian thing if thats what she suggested? I mean if you are desperate I think you may as well give it a shot its really not that hard too; there are lots of awesome meat alternatives plus not only will you be helping your health by cutting back on things like red meat (a little is fine but cholesterol etc can quickly skyrocket especially since portions are usually WAY bigger than the 3oz its suposed to be) you will also be helping fight against these corporations that torture animals (see the documentary Earthlings)
Best of luck to you though and NO you will not be fat your whole life, you can do it.0 -

Hi. I am by no means any expert but if you want to add me as a friend you are welcome. I have been thin 75% of my life. I think the fact that I could always eat what I wanted has played a big part in me gaining some weight the last 10 years. I like how mfp is teaching me to make smarter choices. I am not really craving the food that I used to eat. The thing for me is just not to eat it. I quit smoking a year and a half a go and I have to admit I did put on a bit of weight in the process but I treated myself with food. I needed to focus on the smoking first. I found when I was in the early days of being smokefree that walking really helped me. Good luck.0

I find I tend to hang onto weight or gain it if I am stressed or not getting enough sleep.
Congratulations on stopping smoking I gave up 25 years ago and you are definitely over the hardest part. ( I smoked approximately 70 a day) I didn't notice any huge gain in weight when I gave up but my goodness I chewed a lot of gum. Just be prepared for out of the blue moments when you think I'll just have a smoke now. This happened to me the first time I put on nail polish after giving up even though it was nearly 10 years later. It was however very easy to think - where did that come from? I don't smoke any more.
Giving up bad eating habits is not as easy but I have discovered since using MFP that in truth I was eating a lot more than I realised before I started logging it.

I am a compulsive eater... my issues are different. But I can say this...over the past ten years, I've leaned into a cleaner eating lifestyle... I've always been active and healthy...but in my vain attempts to lose weight because I can't seem to let go of the compulsive eating cycle, I've implemented many positive changes... I eat lots of seeds, nuts, greek yogurt and love things like lentils, legumes, orzo or other types of salads with lots of vegetables. I just made this chorizo, black bean chipotle chili that is to die for.
After seeing a special on the mass production of chicken and meat in this country, I kinda just lost my taste of it.. Don't get me wrong, I buy meat and chicken... and when I can, I snatch up the really high quality types when they're on special. But in the area where I live, there are a ton of available options to supplement protein with options that satiate my need for a burger, etc.
Overtime, I just really have a desire to eat other things. I eat clean not all of the time, but most of the time. And am slowly phasing out the crap. I still eat meat and chicken that is mass produced, and pork for that matter. But really just have tweaked how I do things over time. Plus, having the internet available to purchase things make it easier too. Costco offers wonderful things as well...if there's one in your area...0 -
congrats on quitting smoking.
may i suggest you to track sodium and your water intake and see if that is your problem area.
