I've only really started back on my weight loss journey for the past 4 days. However, I went on the scale today and Im 4 pounds heavier than when I started.
I set my calories to 1700 using the IPORM approach as my TDEE was 2054 calories..

is that too high for a weight loss? Please help

Did you weigh yourself at the same time of day both times? I usually weigh myself in the morning and thought I would weigh myself tonight and the scales say I have put on 3 pounds in 2 days! I will now stick to weighing myself first thing in the morning because I am feeling pretty rubbish now!! I have only been here 5 days, lost 1 pound on day 2 and gained 3 on day 5!! I hate scales so much ha ha I swear they lie! lol wishful thinking.

Anyway I wouldn't get too down about that! Try again in the morning. I can't really say how many calories would be good for you to consume for weight loss as I don't know your current weight, your activity levels etc. I am on a very low calorie intake of 1400 a day.
  • Thanks for the input. I was weighing myself at odd times. so maybe I could do that. However, my main measurement is my clothes. but it was a real bummer thinking that I'm 4 lbs heavier.

A deficit of ~300 cals is fine for losing weight for your TDEE. Just make sure everything is logged and that any exercise is accurate (MFP burned cals amounts seem higher than actual).

Weighing the same time on the same day in the same stuff (pref naked) is the only real way to get a roughly accurate measurement. I can weigh 5 lbs more in the same day depending on the time. Depending on your food eaten a day of so before weighing can also have a dramatic change in your water weight. Think of the bigger picture and don't let yourself get too focused on the numbers, just hope for a downward trend in the numbers. Try what your doing for 3mths and then revaluate your progress is my best suggestion.
