I'm a doctoral student and participated in a WERQ class yesterday at my school's gym for the first time. It was a great work-out (I though I was going to die 15 minutes into the 60 minute class!) and a lot of fun. I had never even head of it before seeing it on the fitness class schedule, so I was just curious as to how widespread it is? Sounds like it started in Chicago.

They've started offering this last month in lieu of Zumba at my yoga studio. I live in a small town in Michigan.0

Thanks for responding. Have you done the WERQ classes at all then?
I've done Zumba in the past as well (which I've also enjoyed). I was reading the main difference is Zumba has more latin influences and WERQ is more hip hop and Rock based, but they honestly didn't seem all that different to me (aside from the music choices). I think this particular WERQ class was a little faster paced than the Zumba I've done in the past, but who knows if that's consistent either.0 -
I haven't taken one yet but a friend of mine did. She basically said what you did, that the moves are very similar but its "top 40" (her words) music.0
