Question about portion sizes...

Okay, so I was eating some Hormel Turkey Chili. According to the label, a serving size is 247 grams. Servings per container: 2. So I weigh out my 247 grams...and decide, "Ah, I'll just have the whole can." I go to weigh out the second serving (because I'm anal like that), and heeeeey, that second serving isn't the same size as the first! It's about 150 grams. So one can does not equal two servings, like the label says. What gives?
I've found the same thing with tuna too. It says a serving size is 2 oz, drained. Servings per can, 2. Nope, when I drain it and weigh it, it comes to 3 oz. But if I weren't as anal as I am, and just ate a can without weighing it and entered it in here, the calories would be off.
How can that be?

I would think there would be legal ramifications. If we are paying for X, we are legally entitled to X.0

I don't have an answer for you, but this is exactly why I love my electronic kitchen scale. Also I've noticed that when a serving size is listed in cups and weight, the two often do not match up very well.
I love the shoes in your profile pic!0 -

IDK either but I am excited to see that if you ate the whole thing, in both cases, you would really be under the calories you thought you had eaten.
Bumping because I hope someone knows, I am curious now... remember the coffee scandal when they were giving less coffee in a can than they labeled? My dad got a check from Folger's, like a settlement from a class action suit or something...0 -

Yeah! I mean, it's not a drastic difference, but still...
I'm sure there's just some logical explanation that I'm missing.0
