After week of bad eating is it ok to go under a few days?

I was sick last week and ended up eating horribly for a week and no exercise and gained 5 or 6 lbs. so the last two days I ate in my calorie range and worked out and this morning was up .5 more. I was wondering if since I had an overload of calories last week if I ate 1400 instead of 1600 and worked out a little extra just for like 4 days if that would be ok? Has anyone ever done this? Or should I just accept what I've done, move on.

Of course it's OK. 200 cals lower isn't like eating 1000 cals a day for months... it should be fine. And yes, up the exercise... can never hurt. You may find that with more exercise, you want/need the full 1600 cals, but that's Ok because you're burning more. You'll still be at a deficit. Good luck!!0

It's probably o.k., although a Weight Watcher leader once told the group that it's a better policy to resume your plan than to try to compensate for going off plan because you could end up in a binge/starve cycle. But it doesn't sound like you plan to starve, so no worries!0

thats ok , but remember your doing great!!! we all have a bad week every now and then, clock it up to the past and move on0

If you gained five or six pounds that is water weight not fat unless you ate 3500 cals a day over and above your maintenance which is unlikely, either you had too much salt or you refuelled your muscles with the carb fuel glycogen to cause that. If salt that will flush out with water and mineral rich foods, if glycogen that will help boost your workouts this week.
If you didn't get all the nutrients your body needed last week when it was under stress then you undereat this week that is potentially unhealthy. Is there any chance the sickness was related to over exercising or not eating a balanced nutritious diet beforehand? These can negatively affect immune function if you had an infection.
Move on calorie wise, perhaps don't have any treats or processed stuff this week just clean wholefoods on the basis you had them last week.0 -

Thanks for the replies! I am going to do whole foods this week. Sometimes just asking out loud hearing other opinions is such a help!! I know it seems silly to get panicked over it but I gain weight soooo fast and where most people would lose it in a day or so (water weight) I tend to hold onto it even with a prescribed water pill. It's partially due to a low thyroid ( not low enough to need meds though) anyway thanks again for the advice and opinions!0

Yes, resume healthy eating, get some water in ya and keep your eye on the prize. 88lbs ... /whistle that is impressive.
Hope you are feeling better!0 -
Stop using weight as a guide if it is going to freak you out, maybe use the fit of your clothing, a tape measure or have your bodyfat tested?0

I totally think that is ok.
Look at it from a weekly perspective not a daily perspective.
Alot of the gain could also have alot to do with water weight so make sure you LOAD up on water.0 -
Instead of cutting back the cals why not just eat lots of dark leafy greens and veggies? Luckily the five or six pounds is probably mostly water (most bad food is usually loaded with sodium). I would maintain 1600 cals (its good for your metabolism) and eat lots of greens also try and stay away from sodium as much as possible, this will help you drop the water weight you gained and get back on track. Good luck0

I'm not a doctor or nutritionist so i don't KNOW this is right, but I would IMAGINE you should eat the same calories but try and work out some extra this week?
In case your body is like - woah, what's going here?0 -
seriously, unless you ate an extra 17500 calories last week you DID NOT actually gain 5lbs. if you ate a lot of crap/processed foods all week, you're just holding extra water weight (totally normal) -- eat normally, work out normally.... watch your sodium, and drink plenty of water. re-evaluate next week. it may take you a week or two to get all that nasty sodium out of your system.0
