The Keg Steakhouse: Favourite Lower-Cal Options

I always worry when I go out to eat. Was the food cooked in butter? How close to a proper portion size is this piece of meat? The list goes on and on. Tonight, I am going to The Keg Steakhouse for dinner so I'm wondering if any of you have a favourite lower-cal meal, or any other suggestions as to what I should order or how much of a portion of steak I should be eating.

My favourite meal at The Keg is the bacon-wrapped tenderloin (7 oz) which, according to their website, is 378 calories - and this is without the veggies and salad.

Help!

So, for those you who may be interested, here is how I fared. I ordered the Filet Mignon Dinner which comes with a "wedge salad" (a big slice of head lettuce with few other raw veggies on it, bacon bits, and ranch on the side), a 7 oz bacon-wrapped tenderloin steak, grilled veggies (like zucchini, asaparagus, red/yellow peppers etc.), and a starch. I didn't count the wedge salad as I did not eat the bacon bits or dressing, and head lettuce is pretty much negligible in terms of calories. Instead of ordering a starch, I asked the waiter to give me more grilled veggies. I removed the bacon from the steak (my boyfriend was appreciative) and ate most of the steak.

Dinner wouldn't have been too caloric, had it not been for the red wine... but giving that up is still a work in progress.

Beef - Tenderloin, trimmed to 0" fat, all grades, cooked, broiled (Filet Mignon, Beef Medallions), 4.5 oz, 278 calories
Homemade - Grilled Vegetables - Zucchinis, Peppers, Onions, 1 cup, 100 calories
Red Wine - Merlot, 1.5 oz, 180 calories

It was delicious, and I didn't feel deprived.

That's awesome! Sounds delicious. Way to make some healthy choices! I think for most of us, eating out is the hardest part.

what I do is order the steak and a side of steamed asparagus. I don't eat the potato.

serapi: I haven't tried the sirloin at The Keg, but I was totally looking at ordering it! I love tenderloin so I always stick to the filet mignon. I will try it next time.

ssteinbring67: Yes, I always have difficulty eating out but have made it a habit to look up the nutritional information for the menu in advance, wherever I'm going. I typically will drink a bottle of water right before we leave for the restaurant (and drink a couple of glasses while there) as well, so I feel bordering on uncomfortable.
