Carbs Versus Cals

I am a calorie counter. I don't pay as much attention to carbs and proteins as I should. If I stay within or below my recommended amount of calories, will I still lose weight? (According to the chart I went over my carbs today--weekends are tough!)

    Calories are king.

    Yes of course.

Don't think so much in terms of "carb maximums"; Think in terms of protein and fat minimums. Fill in the rest however. As long as you're at your calorie target, and getting sufficient protein and fat, there is no limit to how many carbs you can consume.

I go over on carbs all the time. I finally lost a lb today, so I don't think it makes a difference unless you have a medical condition or something.

calories in calories out is number one but everyone is a little different in what they do best eating, for me I need to keep my carbs under 200 most days to consistently lose and keep my protein over 90 grams or my muscles take far too long to recover from workouts. mfp puts me at 228 grams of carbs and 62 of protein (more of each when I workout).

I would suggest working on getting yourself constantly around your calorie goal first then start experimenting with tweaking the other things to find your sweet spot!
