Eating a lot after surgery

**This is copied and pasted from my status** I want some feedback from the rest of the MFP community:

"I'm a little too terrified to complete my diary entry for today. I'm still recovering from surgery last Friday. I've been eating wayy more than I usually eat, which is less than 800 calories a day, which includes me running 3-5 miles daily. Since I'm borderline bedridden and eating a lot, I'm REALLY not burning the calories I've eaten. You have no idea how miserable this feeling is. I want to exercise, but I'm physically incapable of doing so, plus my medications are making me feel like sleeping all day. I know I need to food to heal, so I shouldn't feel bad...I can't wait to heal."

I was diagnosed with a mild eating disorder in the past, so maybe this surgery is good for me to realize how much I do need food to live well.

You usually eat less than 800 calories? You SHOULD be eating more, LOTS more, ESPECIALLY when recovering from surgery. I would bump that up to 1200 net at least.

That's one way to look at it. If your body needs a lot of energy when you aren't 100%, imagine how much more it needs when you are (lots more).
