Post Operative Delirium?

Hello all,

I know this is off topic but looking for some guidance/answers. Has anyone dealt with a loved one suffering from POCD (Post Operative Cognitive Delirium)? Basically going "crazy" after a surgery done at a hospital. The causes are still unclear but certain people are susceptible to it such as older age, post operative infection, substance abuse, certain medications.

My father in law is in his second week going through this after his second colon surgery. He's only 59 but started experiencing delirium within 48 hours. He's in ICU and we can't understand why he isn't getting "better". He's been on several psychotic drugs to help with this but it's very frustrating. He's got an infection in his abdomen as well he's battling. We need for him to get better so we can do his colostomy and then him better for chemo.

I'm just wondering if anyone has gone through this and can offer some insight?
