Fast diets

So, I'm doing something different this week. Trying a fast diet. Alternating my days - one day low calories, the next day more calories. Has anybody else tried this type of thing? I'd be very interested to hear of success stories or how dreadful it was lol. I lost 2 lbs on my first fast day. Helen x

i don't really believe in these things but if it does work for you that's great. how exactly does it work? what are the details? x0

There's a number of different approaches to this intermittent fasting (sometimes shortened to IF).
Some people do 5:2 - 5 days normal eating, 2 days low calorie, about 500 cals.
Some do alternate days - JUDDD is Johnston Up Day Down Day. If you use the search feature on here you'll be able to find groups of people trying a similar approach.0 -
Not sure I liked the thought of it, myself, but I was very curious!! Its amazing how much you lose on the fast days. I couldn't believe I lost 2lbs! Basically, you eat 500 calories on the low calorie (fast) days and on a normal day you are supposed to eat the regular 2000 calories for a woman. Apparently it has many health benefits. Lots of information on this type of diet online. I'll post how much I lose after a full 7 days as I want to try it properly. Its certainly a motivator and I found it easy. I'm trying alternate days initially. helen x0

The first day loss is really just from lower water retention, don't expect to be losing 2lb per day everyday.

Yes but a good motivator Looking forward to seeing the overall loss in a week.0

A week is not a good indicator, try at least four weeks before you decide.0

I wont last 4 weeks as i only have 5 more lbs to lose0

if you only have 5lbs to lose you should be increasing your calories and working towards maintenance surely?0 -
Hi HellyBelle !
A less extreme one in by lateset mag is one day 1000, next 1200 alternating
Extreme fasting one day followed by unrestricted eating the next day and so on,
was in a television documentary, the scientific results showed generally people
could manage this and generally didnt eat 2 days calories on the unrestricted day
and so lost weight on this lifestyle!0 -
I've been following the 5:2 fast diet (after watching the horizon doc on bbc) and love it! I also lost quite a few pounds the day after a fast day but it was down to water weight but I'm still losing weight. The other major benefit I've found is that my skin has cleared up loads and it now has a glow about it and my hair is shinier too, as this fast is really meant as a detox for your body to replenish itself. If you find after a couple of weeks you don't want to lose any more weight, I would just fast for one day in every 7 days so you still get the detoxifying benefits of fasting and keep your body healthy. Good luck - it's really worth the struggle!0

Thanks for all your comments, its great hearing the various opinions and we all have different ones lol. Personally, I want the weight off, then I will do what feels best for me. I'll have to look for the horizon documentary! thanks for that tip, I'll keep doing this and see what happens. Maybe I can do alternate days of higher calories when at target, easing myself into eating healthy as a life choice thanks hx0

out of interest - if you're working to 500 / 1000 whatever calories on a fasting diet, do you allow for more calories if you're doing exercise? so if you walk and burn 100 calories would you allow an extra 100 calories in your daily allowance?0

As a long term diet plan, I imagine you would have to add extra calories if you were doing regular exercise. For me, very short term, it seems ok. Hx0

Been doing it for the last 9 days, have dropped weight, body fat and vital stats. Feel great.
Really enjoying it and am thinking it is something I could do in the long term, just eating more peanut butter when I want to be doing maintenance.0
