Dried Fruit, Vege's, & Meat Question

I am preparing for doing some backpacking trips this spring/summer/fall and have re-discovered my food dehydrator! I have been experimenting with fruits and meats so far. I am going to try doing some veges today. It occurred to me that these also make very healthy, low calorie, convenient snacking food in general. Easy to carry a zip lock bag full of homemade apple chips and they are oh so tasty. I am learning to add simple little things to really tweak the flavors. For instance, on the apple chips just a dash of pure cinnamon goes a long way.
Anyway I have tried these items so far:
FRUIT
oranges
apples
pears
peaches
bananas
MEAT
beef
I want to try;
sweet potato sticks
venison
fish
broccoli
carrots
tomatoes
mango
pineapple
asperagus
squash
Has anyone tried these? Or, any suggestions?
Thanks

We use sweet potatoes. I love them because they are sweet without being too sweet. (In fact, an all natural dog food company makes them as chew sticks for dogs as well. No sweets added.) Also, plain cranberries work. I love the tartness so I never added sugar like most other food companies do. If the fish works out, please let me know how you do it and which type you used. Thanks.
I have a friend who has a smoker. He does all his meat that way first to add a unique flavor and then puts it in the dehydrator. Yum! Its so good. He does the most amazing deer meat!0 -
I HAVE USED WILD PHEASANT AND WATERFOWL AND HAVE ALSO BEEN DOING FRUIT ROLL UPS THAT ARE REAL GOOD. DAUGHTER LOVES THEM. GROUND TURKEY IS ALSO GREAT AND VERY LEAN. I SNACK ON THIS STUFF ALL DAY. VERY LOW CAL AND KEEPS THE BODY BURNING CALORIES.
THE WATERFOWL IS THE ONLY WAY I EAT THAT STUFF ANYMORE. I DON'T REALLY CARE FOR THE TASTE OF WILD DUCK ANY OTHER WAY!0 -
i agree. fruit roll-ups using applesauce or pureed fruit. yum! venison works great for jerky. you'll have to come back and let us know how all the veggies turned out.0
