Figure calories from homemade beef jerky

I made homemade beef jerky and I don't know how to figure the calories per serving or oz.

I started with 26.5 oz of raw sliced (fat trimmed off) beef brisket.

I marinated in vinegar, salt, pepper, cumin and other spices - no sugar or other ingredients that would need to be factored in.

The dehydrated yield is 4.5 oz.

What would the calories per oz of jerky be?

Show me the math please.

What I would do is find the nutritional info for the 26.5 ounces of raw meat then divide that by 9. That would give you the info for 1/2 ounce of dried meat since you ended up with 4.5 ounces.

In the database, 1 oz uncooked briset is 44 calories so 29.5 oz = 1166 calories. (What does 9 represent?) 1166 / 9 = 129.56 rounded 130 calories per 1/2 oz. That sucks!! Thanks for the help.

I just looked at what your finished yield was (4.5 oz.) and was trying to use an easy number for figuring servings...if you were going to figure out .5 oz. servings, there would be 9 .5 oz servings in 4.5 oz. So divide the total calories of the raw meat by 9, since I don't think you really lose anything in the way of calories when you dry it, just moisture.

That might be going the long way around, but that's how I would do it. :)

Of course, maybe some of the fat does render out of it? I don't know...someone else may have a better idea. I tried, at least! LOL
