She has a point. Dontstopb has only lost 120-some-odd pounds. She's probably just guessing about this stuff. [sarcasm.]

I'd save my money and put it towards a gym membership instead.. But that's just me. Gimmicks are just that, gimmicks.

That's 130-some-odd pounds. Stop short-changing her Journey to success.

Srsly, giving an opinion is not negativity, and luckily the OP seems smart enough to listen to the ones who have lost the weight.

Why not try it? supplements work differently for everyone just as medications do. And yes, obviously calorie deficit is what its all about, we all know that. But its worth a try, even if it truly is a placebo if in your mind it seems to make you feel better or feel less hungry I say try it. Also, if you noticed for the most part, everyone who replied to your post seems to "know it all" or is a bit negative. In my opinion, no ones really "knows" what is, or isnt going to help you get where you want to be. So above all listen to yourself and ignore the negativity.

So, the people trying to save her money as well as trying to prevent her from setting herself up for failure are negative know it alls?

I'll take the negative people. You can go one with your sunshiney self and when all the fads don't work..maybe you'll see the difference between straightforward and negative.

    From http://www.fakefoodwatch.com/2012/05/raspberry-ketones-another-industrial.html :

    The claims:

"Japanese researchers reported in 2005 that raspberry ketone 'prevents and improves obesity and fatty liver,' by boosting the breakup of fat cells." (ABC News)
"Korean researchers reported in 2010 that raspberry ketone increased fat cells' secretion of a hormone called adiponectin that regulates the processing of sugars and fats in the blood." (ABC News)
"Raspberry ketone accelerates weight loss by eliminating the absorption of fat, increasing your metabolism, and by removing fat from the body cells to be burned. This allows your body to burn and melt away fat much faster than you other wise would." (RaspberryKetoneBenefits.org)
"Pure Raspberry Ketones controls your appetite, boosts metabolism and burns fat without the side effects associated with most diet pills." (NutraBio.com)

    The facts:
"When given to mice in very high doses (up to 2% of body weight), raspberry ketone has been shown to prevent high-fat-diet-induced elevations in body weight. However, no effects on body weight were observed with doses up to 200 times greater than the estimated intake in humans. The high dose effect is reported to stem from the alteration of lipid metabolism, increasing norepinephrine-induced lipolysis. Although products containing this compound are marketed for weight loss, there is no clinical evidence for this effect in humans." (Wikipedia)

I tried Rasberry Ketone pills for one month. They didn't help me one bit. Same for the others in my gym. Not sure why Dr Oz is promoting them so much, but no one I know has had success with them.

...Not sure why Dr Oz is promoting them so much...
Same reason he promotes other diet hoaxes - because he's paid quite handsomely to endorse them. Same reason pro bodybuilders promote supplements they've never used (or are irrelevant when their steroid usage is what has actually helped them achieve the gains they've made). Read a fitness/bodybuilding magazine and look at the insane claims companies make about their supplements. "6 pounds of muscle mass in 2 weeks!" "Get huge overnight!!!!"

The diet industry is a multi-billion dollar machine which preys upon desperate people looking for a quick fix. Although regulated by the FDA, they're still able to make outlandish (and untrue) claims about their products as long as they provide the proper disclaimers in small print. Read any supplement ad and you'll see things like "*Results not typical."; "**When combined with a restricted-calorie diet and exercise program"; etc.
  • I so hope someone read this account and I am curious to see if I am the only one who has the same reactions. I've taken Raspberry Ketone for several months, and I feel a very clear difference between days I'm taking the tables and days I don't. After taking the tablets I feel like I have done a few too many sit ups or I have a mild case of morning sickness. I break the tablet in two because I think it devolves quicker and within an hour I will feel my tummy muscles shiver like the morning after sit ups at the gym. It doesn't slow me down at all, in fact, while I feel the "touch" of morning sickness I am doubly aware of what I'm eating, cause I just don't feel like eating. Anyone else on MFP get this reaction?

A pill that makes you shiver and not want to eat. doesn't sound like something I'd want to keep taking.

I'm very sorry if this sounds condescending, because it's really not my aim, and I happen to have a bit of a blunt way of putting things:
I don't know why people don't just Google for more information. Places like MFP and other similar sites are not just used by weight loss enthusiasts, but my marketeers, advertisers, and people posing as regular members in order to up sell these products.

Raspberry ketones have had no scientific trials, and preliminary studies have shown they do nothing to help boost any kind of weight loss.
Any 'supplement' comes with the instructions to be used as part of a well balanced life style, so any weight loss can actually be attributed to the exercise and better eating, than whatever tablets you've been taking along side.

Not only this, but I remember reading that you take them for two weeks, and then they boost your metabolism.
If you want to boost your metabolism with immediate effect, any kind of exercise will do, rather than taking a tablet which works in two weeks time (and may not even work...)

Actually, if you stick around you'll see that threads like these are always met with a resounding NO. I can't say that I've seen anyone actually marketing these quick fixes on here ans I don't think they would survive the barrage of abuse and vitriol if they tried.
