What is an acceptable LBM loss while losing weight?

Start weight 220, 44% BF (figured out by a trainer at gym). Which means 96.8 pounds of fat 123 pounds of LBM. Correct?

A month later weight 209, 42% BF (same method as above) which means 87.78 pounds of fat and 121.22 of LBM.

So a loss of 9.02 lbs fat and 1.78 of LBM. Is that too much?

I am just started added in doing the strength circuit and considering forking out the money for some PT time to get free weights started but want to make sure that I am going about it the correct way.

  • I don't know that there is a magic percentage. You just need to work to minimize LBM loss when you are cutting. To me it seems a bit to high to me.

You probably also know this stuff, but here are some things you should do to preserve LBM

    * Resistance training full body 2-3 times per week
    * Eat plenty of protein (~ 1 gram per pound of body weight)
    * Supplement with BCAA and gluamine

I appreciate the opinion while I get that there isn't a magic number but was hoping for there to be some guidelines. I did a search on google and saw a few saying under 20% is ok but that was on body building forums not exactly the same thing as I am doing.
