Just signed up for my first 5k. What an inspiration. Thanks for this.0

I absolutely LOVE this. Running changed my life. I HATED it at first too. Absolutely HATED it. I hated it just thinking about it. Then there came a point where I surprised myself and realized I didn't hate it anymore.
It's given me confidence and strength that I never imagined. Thank you for this post. This is why I run. Thanks for joining the running community, it's an honor to have you. Keep it up!!0 -
Oh and also, I have come in dead last in a race before. I had the police escort car breathing down my neck. I know the feeling.0

YAY you! I started running 5 years ago. Last year I ran my first (and last) 10 mile Monster Dash. I hurt like HECK after, but I finished. I do want to do another, but dang, it is cold in Minnesota these days. I do still run every weekend, but I'm not sure I can do more than 5 in the cold.
You know what? This is pretty negative. My running pal wants me to run a 10 mile in March. We have not trained for a long run. What do you think? Should we go for it?0 -
I just signed up for my first 5k (with obstacles) and I'm crapping bricks! I'm so nervous.0

Isn't it funny how it happens? Now there is nothing short of injury or illness that would prompt me to willingly give up a run - and even then it's grudging!YAY you! I started running 5 years ago. It's normally really cold in Chicago this time of year - never let it stop you. Go for that 10 miler!0 -

Your entire story made me smile because I knew the ending was going to be awesome. And it was. Congrats, keep collecting that race bling!0

congratulations! I am trying to decide whether to train for a faster 5k or 10k time, or train for distance and do a half...0

Your story is a true inspiration to me. I'm literally crying because I am embarking on almost the same journey. I hated running when I was in high school. HATED it. And I don't hate very many things. I started my C25K journey last week and it was hard. I thought I was going to puke on the treadmill. I did 1.5 miles with a 0% incline and it sucked. Earlier today/yesterday, I did W2D1 and I did 2.5 miles with a 1% incline. And it still sucked, but I'm already seeing improvements. I'm hoping, after all my hard work, I can be where you are today, running 5Ks, 10Ks, half-marathons, etc.
Congratulations on your accomplishments and I hope I'll start collecting some of that awesome bling soon, too.0 -
That's a fabulous achievement to make such fantastic running progress in such a short time, you deserve to feel well and truly proud of yourself. What's next? :flowerforyou:0

What an achievement! I want to get into running, but I think I need to get a fitter first. It's great to read such an inspiring story!0

Long term, I want to run a full marathon and then possibly an ultra. For now I plan to do more halfs this year and keep pushing myself.0 -
What a great story!!!
I definitely see a full marathon in your future!0 -
I'm a new runner also (running my 3rd 5K in March) and I'm SO SLOW - all my friends leave me in the dust. :-( But I've committed to running a half in November and I love your story! So motivating!! Thanks for posting.0

Fantastic! So happy to hear you reached your goals.
It was great being in the C25K group you started. Unfortunately, I had to finally accept that my knee will not allow me to go for longer distances.
So, I signed up for a Spring Triathlon in July. 1/4 mile swim, 11 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run. (I figure since the run is last, I can grin and bear it to the finish. ) I got a gym membership and started swimming. I am not good but I just keep thinking that its like the C25K program. Little steps each week and I am already seeing improvements. I've talked three other people into doing it with me because I found that having the group to "train" with really helped to push me along. Thank you for that!
Keep up the running and collecting that bling! I cherish the trophy I won on my first 5K.0 -
Aww - I'm sorry your knee has been so rough on you. I had wondered but figured if it was really proving bad me bugging you wouldn't have been welcomed. A triathalon sounds AWESOME - maybe some day I'll get a bike and try my hand at that! Good luck with it - I'm sure you'll be amazing0
