Basic or Bells n' Whistles?

Okay, all, I need some advice. When the tax money rolls in, I want to get myself an elliptical and a treadmill. Would you suggest going all fancy and expensive (which mean USED for me LOL) or is basic good? Like I'm looking at models at Kmart (a treadmill for $299 and an elliptical for $249) that seem to be decent with good reviews (AND I can Layaway! LOL)
But then I saw, for example, a Proform $600 machine with all kinds of fun things on it on Craig's List going for $275 (but who knows what you're buying when you're buying used, right??)
Anyhoo, let me know your thoughts.....

i think with machines like that the general rule of thumb is the more expensive the better.
the problem with cheaper machines is that they arent made for continual use since the assumption is people will buy it, use it for a few weeks and then it becomes a coat rack. i'd look for something that's gym quality, which usually ends up on the higher priced end0
