Way over my sugar allowance every day!

According to this site, to loose weight I am at 1200 calories and 24g of sugar. I have no trouble sticking to the calorie amount but am way over on the sugar. For example today for breakfast I had a small orange as well as 1/2 cup of cheerios. The sugar was 12 g for the orange alone. For dinner tonight I microwaved a small sweet potato. That contained 17g of sugar! Just between those two items, I was at 29g of sugar for the day. That isnt including the other items I ate today. Adding everything else, my sugar intake was over 50g!! I ate nothing sweet today other than fresh fruit. How do you keep within the allowed range of sugar without cutting out fresh fruit?

Its not like you are eating candy bars. Healthy sugar is good for you, I wouldn't (and dont) even keep track of it. (but thats just me)

I find it extremely hard to stay under the sugar allowance too. I just try to limit stuff with added refined sugar (although some of that does creep in now and then). I tend to agree with the previous poster and not worry about it only much as long as the sugars are those that occur from whole foods. By the way, I live in the Hat too!

unless you have a medical reason for doing so, there's no reason to track your sugar. track your carbs instead, actually.
