Calorie Goals

How important is it to have anywhere from 100-300 calories left over at the end of the day??
I have a 1310 limit, and I try to burn 500-600 at the gym...so I tend to have a net worth of 200-300 left over. Is that okay?? OR Is that fooling my body into thinking that I'm starving myself and is it going to go into super fat storage mode??
