So I just found out that I'm more of an apple shape than an hourglass (sad face). It makes sense as to why I carry most of my weight in my tummy, though. Anyway, is it harder to lose weight there if you're built that way? I know you don't know my genetics or whatever, but for apple shapes, have you struggled with losing? I lift weights and eat at a deficit.

True, people with apple shaped bodies (ME )= DO have a hard time losing weight, because the fat tends to settle in the stomach, butt, and thighs, more than the arms, legs, and back.
Well, the only think we should do is to lower our calorie intake and cut off sugar or candy, chocolate, ....etc.
I wish you the best of work, Kassie!

But i'll melt it0 -
I don't think it's harder to lose weight, but I do find that I have to be at a much lower weight to feel comfortable with my body. I have friends who are hourglass shaped and weigh more, but look great because of where the weight falls. If I am even a few pounds overweight, I look it.0

I've ALWAYS read that apple shapes are the easiest to lose weight and have done so myself the first time I tried to lose weight last year (I'm a blasted apple too) and my gut and waist are the first to start slimming down and slimmed down BIGTIME and dramatically, WHEN I EAT/ATE PROPERLY that is Read this:

The good news for you is that - in contrast with women with a pear shape body - you lose weight easier :-)
This is because the visceral fat is the first to go when you start dropping the extra pounds.
As a result, you'll see your waist shrink first, almost immediately after implementing these body-type customized nutritional guidelines.
With an apple body shape, your mantra should be "complex carbs".
Yes, complex carbs.
Contrary to what you might have been led to believe by the latest diet gurus advocating extreme high-protein, high-fat diets, complex carbs (good carbs) actually promote weight loss!
This is in addition to giving you all the necessary supply of anti-aging, cancer-fighting phytonutrients.
Plus, having enough complex carbs in your diet (along with omega-3 oils) boosts your weight loss and gives you relief from stress, negative moods and depression...
...So eating good carbs makes you happier, more calm and relaxed.
Here are the basic nutritional guidelines for an apple shaped body:
•Favour all complex carbohydrates (friendly carbs): whole grains, dark breads, brown rice, quinoa, oats, all legumes, vegetables (except starchy ones, like potatoes, cooked carrots) and fruits (except very sweet ones: bananas, watermelon, grapes, pineapple)
•Eat moderately quality proteins: lean beef, lean skinless chicken & turkey, fish & seafood, beans, lentils, low-fat yogurt & cottage cheese, eggs
•Eat moderately healthy fats: nuts, avocado, flax seeds powder, dressings made with olive oil or flaxseed oil & fat-free yogurt; cook with healthy cooking oils.
•Stay away from ALL refined carbs, including white-flour products (e.g. white breads, muffins, pastries, cakes, cookies, crackers, etc.), ice cream, candy, fruit juices, sweet carbonated drinks - as all increase your insulin resistance, which triggers the fat-storage metabolism.0 -
I have an apple shape and I don't think it is harder for me in general---but it is darn near impossible for me to lose the belly fat. I can lose everywhere else though.0

Yeah, my tummy is evil, too. But I think it's whittling away?0

I am also an apple and have a belly that won't go away. My mom carried her weight the same place and developed diabetes in her 60's. I am 51 and I work out 6 to 7 times per week. I run on the treadmill and lift weights. It seems the more I work out the hungrier I get! I have recently switched to brown rice and whole wheat bread. I have lost 1 pound in two weeks. This is such a slow process, I am losing hope.
Oh well, it's off to the gym I go. Hope you guys have a great day!

I have an apple shape also, but as soon as I started losing weight, it came off of my waist area. Of course I am endowed mostly at the top of my apple (if you get my drift) and I would love to lose it there! lol Until then, I am happy with my waist trimming down0
