Patience is a virtue...

I am sitting here...going on 4 or 5 months of plateau...and feeling incredibly discouraged. I am just getting so impatience with this whole process and I just want the weight to come off. I wish i could look in the mirror and be skinny, feel healthy and be confident. I just had a mini binge on crap. Part of me is just saying "who cares". Though, no one said this would be easy. I figure I would have been at least under 200lbs by now. Are my expectations too high?...ahhh this post is just turning into a vent but yeah. I have my vision in my head of how I will hopefully look once I reach my goal, and I have my rewards in my head...but yeah it just feels like I don't have the patience anymore. I even just googled what the "hCG diet" is all about. I am starting to look into vitamins to boost weight loss...and of course vitamins turn into diet pills and diet plans. I don't really have a question. Maybe anyone who has gone through this "Depression" and came out of it still strong?

Hey,
Didnt want to read and run.... Just wanted to let you know you're not the first to feel this funk, and you sure wont be the last!
Im feeling it right now too, It took a long time for that weight to creep on, and it will take its time to come off, healthily and safely.
Keep going, one day at a time.

You are DEFINITELY not alone. For the last two months my weight has barely moved and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. 90% of the time I eat very well. I exercise 6 days of the week, both strength and cardio. And yet I'm not losing weight anymore. I also thought I would be under 200 by now, but I keep bouncing back and forth between 218 and 220. Getting depressed about it.0

So i decided to take some progress pictures this morning - WOW. My tummy looks so small since last month. I am definitely feeling better, at least I can see some kind of progress, even if it is not the number on the scale.0

SAME! It can be frustrating at times. That is why this website is such a huge tool for me... the support helps to keep me going on my dark days!!!0

I know...it can be incredibly frustrating. I'm not an expert, but it might do you some good to find a good Weight Watchers meeting. I'm assuming you are using only MFP - so am I, but I have used Weight Watchers in the past. A good meeting leader can really, really help you, especially with plateaus. I can only give you advice from my own personal experience, but in the past when I have plateaued, it has been because of the food I was eating, when and how often I was eating, and of course...the stupid measurements.
First, evaluate what you are eating - the pie charts on MFP are of great help to me. My daily requirements are a little too high on the carbs, so I make sure to eat more protein than carbs, even if I go over my daily protein requirement (but still stay within my caloric count). It makes a huge difference to me. Also, if you do decide to go to a WW meeting, print out the last month of food tracking for them to evaluate - again, a good meeting leader will be able to tell you what's going wrong. It may also be you are eating too few times a day - if your calorie intake is 1,200, and you eat that all in one meal, you are obviously not encouraging your metabolism.
Sorry if this is all obvious, redundant information to you - again, I'm only speaking from experience. Watching my carbs daily and eating more, smaller meals throughout the day really helped me.
And finally: Measure, measure, measure...that was my personal trainer's motto. I hated it, but it made me stop being a slave to the scale. You mentioned you work out a great deal - is it the famous muscle weight vs. fat debate? It could be - when I started measuring myself, the results surprised me. I wasn't really losing weight, but I was losing inches, and that was very encouraging.
Hope this was a little helpful. Keep your head up - and don't give up! 35 pounds is an awesome achievement! I truly believe, sometimes, our damn bodies just fight us!!0 -
7lbs in 7months.... I feel your pain.
Ive started completely changing things up now. Eating back almost all workout calories to see if thatchanges anything. Ive also started running.
Measurments are my best friend because at least they hae moved a little
Stick with it and your body will thank you eventually!0 -
I'm frustrated, too. Really - I don't know why I bother to keep trying. I've lost ..... wait for it ..... 19 pounds in 4 years. Some days are good, too many days are bad, and it's hard to accept the snail's pace of progress I've managed to achieve so far.
Keep plugging away at it; that's the only choice that makes sense.0 -

This is perfect! I actually had a scale related depression because it went UP 5 lbs! Even with my healthy diet and 5-6 DAYS of hard work at the gym. I looked better and no less smaller than before. Continue with monthly progress pics for your results rather than the scale. Lesson learned.0 -
Put me in the boat with you all,, feeling stuck for the last couple of months. Yesterday I cleaned out my closet of almost all my old clothes from a year ago and I tried some stuff on. That was a huge boost! I have to remember I have come a long way. I was drowning in those size 24's when I put them on yesterday! (I am down to a size 16 now) They are all headed to the consignment store..bye bye.. never gonna need you again! Still have a ways to go, so am trying to remain patient too! Keep up the great work everyone!0
