Polar FT4 HRM chest strap

Does anyone have issues with their FT4 chest strap? I replaced batteries on receiver and transmitter but seems like the chest strap has a mind of its own. I wet the sensor area before strapping it on but it's not picking up my heart beat all the time. I've had it for over a year so I'm wondering if it goes bad? Anyone wash theirs? Thanks for any insight you can offer.

    Have you tried washing it?

I had the same problem, which got sorted out by washing it - I just put it in the laundry with some other clothes.

Try reseating the battery.I had trouble with this a few months ago and it took several attempts to get iot to work.

I'm starting to have that problem too...my heart rate will keep coming up at 00% and its really frustrating :( I was thinking about changing the battery, but I guess that doesn't help too much either...

Thanks for all the replies! I think I'm going to run it through the washer today. :)

You are supposed to wash it after every 7 uses... and make sure that when you wash it, it's with soap only and NO fabric softener.

This started happening to me after about a year as well, will either not pick up the heart rate until 2 or 3 attempts, or it will suddenly go to 00 in the middle of the workout...not what I want to see during 'Insanity'....

do you disconnect the receiver from the band between uses? I had read that can cause the battery and connection to degrade quicker.

This is probably not what you want to hear. I had that problem and tried everything listed above. I ordered a new strap on Amazon and it is made different. My old one had silver mesh like strips that you wet (which were coming apart)and was really hard to get the battery door open. The new one has had NO problems, I think I had an older model even though I only had it a year.
