Sit Up Bench

Howdy all! - Last week I used the situp bench 4 days (Mon-Thur) for about 20 minutes each time, my stomach was sore for a while (as expected). While in the gym last night (Monday) I ATTEMPTED to use it again, but when I was trying to sit up I had an excruciating pain in my abdomen that was almost like a tearing senstaion. Is this normal or should I give myself a while to recuperate?

I am betting this is a troll post.
If not then yes you absolutely need to rest / recuperate until you don't have pain. The abdominals are engaged for almost any weight bearing activity, so I would not lift any weights until you are recovered0 -
You were probably just crushing your unborn baby.0

Doesn't sound normal0

excruciating pain is a symptom of something bad happening0

I would prescribe a lot less situps and more time doing useful exercises.0

There is absolutely nothing to indicate that it is a troll post. Why would you assume that?0 -

You again? I thought you were going back to the "real" forums. Be gone.
To the OP, excruciating pain is not good, and could indicate a number of things. If you are not in constant pain, and the pain only comes when you are trying to perform this exercise, give it a few days and try again. Could simply be too soon and your muscles haven't finished repairing themselves - especially if the last time was the first time you've ever used that apparatus.0 -

" I felt a painful tearing sensation in my abs should I stop doing that?"
I can't believe someone would actually not know that they should stop.0 -

You should never feel "excruciating" pain when you're lifting. Take it easy for a couple days then ease back into it.
A bit off topic, but you shouldn't be working your abs on consecutive days. Hitting them hard 2 times a week on non-consecutive days is plenty. Also, you said you're spending 20 minutes each time on the situp bench? Hopefully that's not 20 minutes just for crunches? There's much better ab exercises you could be doing.0 -

Welcome to MFP where muscle is denser than fat but there are a lot of other things denser than muscle.0 -

Yeah, you're probably going to want to change your understanding of people in general if you plan to spend much time in the MFP forums. Otherwise, you'll end up with a flat forehead.
As for OP, if you do anything in the gym and you experience excruciating pain, stop immediately. If the pain doesn't start to get better quickly, consider seeing a medical professional.0
