If i'm lifting and not getting enough protein, will I just lose muscle over time instead of gaining it? Or will I still gain muscle but slower?

I apologize for answering a question with a question. However, without "enough protein" what would additional muscle mass be made from? Sadly there is no metabolic pathway for converting fat directly to muscle, more's the pity.0

Depends more on whether you are eating at a calorie surplus when it comes to building muscle.0
