I just went ahead and finished out my diary for the day, ( i know exactly what im having for dinner ;) ) and my sodium is -83... this is the first time tracking my sodium (just added it into my settings)
Is that bad? can someone help give me a number to try to stay below so I can work on it?!

OH OK I SEE WHERE MFP ESTIMATES IT FOR ME... DUH... SORRY GUYS...
BUT I GUESS IS 83 G THAT BAD TO GO OVER? OR IS IT REALLY AWFUL? BE REALISTIC!

MFP sets mine at 2,500 grams a day and it is hard for me to stick to, but "do-able" Good luck!

I'm not sure how MFP arrived at 2500 mg/day. The American Heart Association now recommends that everyone (not just at risk groups) limit their sodium intake to 1500 mg/day. See: http://newsroom.heart.org/news/new-studies-reinforce-american-240224

For many people (esp women) limiting sodium helps in losing weight.

1500mg /day is for ppl with hypertension, heart- or kidney disease or other cardiac or cerebral risk factors. A healthy, active person can well eat and tolerate 2500-2800mg/day. After that you might feel bloated and headachy. If you had too much salty food, make sure to drink plenty to dilute you blood-sodium levels.

Depends on the individual, someone that is more active will need more the RDA is for sedentary people. I consume 4 to 5 g's a day and my BP is 110/70

Sodium is pretty easy to stay under when you prepare most of your own meals from scratch. It's the processed stuff that will get you!

To Judith, RN. The American Heart Association has changed its recommendations. It now recommends everyone limit their sodium intake to 1500 mg/day, not just at-risk groups. Quoting the news release they issued in November 2012: "Our recommendation is simple in the sense that it applies to the entire U.S. population, not just at-risk groups,” said Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the American Heart Association"
