I am buying a heart rate monitor tonight but am confused about which one to buy. I want one that constantly tracks how many calories you are burning without having to stop and put your finger on it. It looks like the only ones like that require you to wear a stomach belt too. Do i need to get one like that to be able to see how many calories i am actively burning

Yes one with a chest strap is going to continuously read your heart rate through your workout. A watch only model has to be touched with your fingers throughout the workout to take a reading.
In my own research when I was shopping for a HRM, I narrowed my choices to either a Polar FT4 or FT7, or a New Balance N4. I was shopping on eBay, so went with what came up first, which was the New Balance - works great and I love it. Saw them online (Amazon maybe?) yesterday for around $40 - they retail for $70 at Target and places like that.
Can find similar prices and deals online for the Polars.0
