feeling bad

A little background: I was diagnosed with breast cancer 13 years ago. I weighed 160 lbs. 5 ft 8 in. Fortunately, my cancer was caught early. However, slowly, my weight spun out of control. I am now at a very uncomfortable 215 lbs.
Today I had my mammogram and check up with my wonderful doctor. He is always such a wonderful person.....and still is. However, he was extremely forthright with me today, and I have fallen apart. My checkup was good except his lecture that followed was embarrassing for me. He addressed my weight gain. He explained the health hazards and stressed that I was a walking time bomb. Excess fat encourages estrogen which causes cancer.
He continued to share that he thought I was an attractive woman when I first came to see him, but that the excess weight was not attractive. I was absolutely humiliated.......but I knew he was right. By the way, my husband was in the room with me. My doctor was just being straight forward. However, I am having a difficult time getting through this emotionally. I need a diet plan and exercise plan. I have tried weight watchers before and think I may try it again.
Thanks for listening or not.....Maybe I just needed to get this off my mind so that I can move forward.

Well it may not have been tactful, but was it effective?
I was really mad at my 20+ year doctor for allowing me to get so far out of hand. Never said a word as I went from 105 to 170. I was an unhealthy mess and I would have had much more respect for him if he laid it on the line.
Of course I have cut my doctor visits in 1/2 and my meds are all gone now that I lost weight, so he had a stake in me being overweight! :ohwell:
My wake up moment was when I went into the dr's office for a follow up on my cholesteral which was over 300. I was on a heavy medication and I told him I went off it because it was making me sick when I ate certain foods. He was and asked my what foods?
I told him off handedly that things like pizza...........he looked at me :noway: PIZZA:grumble:????????
I was mortified! But I tell ya what, it resonated in my heart and I used it to lose weight! almost 40 pounds and no meds my friend!!
Use this as a YOUR catalist!0 -
This is the only diet plan that has ever worked for me: I ate better and exercised more. You have been given a new lease on life. Use it to the fullest!!
I promise once you start exercising and eating better.............1 week...............I swear................you will feel awesome! Prob get back some of your confidence and feel so good!!
God Bless you!0 -
Yes, it is reality. I know in my heart that this is what I needed. I need to get past the embarrassment and do something about it. Sometimes the truth hurts.0

I am sorry you're feeling bad! But way to go for listening to your doctor's honesty. Do not let this be your stumbling block though! It takes a strong person to go through what you've been through and relize there is still more to work to do. You are a survivor and that makes you a fighter. So keep fighting. Keep fighting for your health!0

Well - you know what you need to do. We've all been there - hitting the high and needing to come down.

Yes, I have been through a lot.....I do not want to go back to that. Therefore, I need to be stronger. I am not sure why this is so hard for me. It sounds so easy....diet and exercise..... I am usually a strong person......
Thank you for talking to me. It is much easier to talk to total strangers right now than with the people love.0 -
Well, I started today. My husband and I walked for 25 minutes. I have a lot of back pain......its probably the weight. But I will suck it up. Turkey burger and canned spinach. It was good. I can do this. I have no other option. Again, thank for listening to my ramblings I have had a few tears but am doing better. Thank You0

So sorry for your situation, but this site is probably the best thing you can take advantage of. You don't mention whether or not you're exercising, but this is a large part of the solution. When you exercise and track it on this site, it will subtract calories from what you eat, and you are able to eat more. I pray that God will give you the motivation and the strength to bring your body back to a healthy state. Good luck with your journey! Diane:flowerforyou:0
